Rich in history:
Six Springs was homesteaded by three families in the late 1880's.
Most famous is the Newbill family from which the creek gets it's name. The Newbill family lived at this location near Grizzly, Oregon until the late 1940's.
The School house and town existed in Grizzly from the 1880's until a fire destroyed the entire town in the 1950's. All that remains are remnants of the foundations and timbers from the old structures.
A small family cemetery exists across the Grizzly Mountain Road that provides access to Six Springs Ranch.
The barn and original homestead were occupied until 1946. Now, to save this piece of history the barn is being
completely restored and is used to store winter feed for livestock.
The original homestead is still standing. Restoration, however, is not practicable. Instead, we have decided to install a new, but historic, roof in order to prevent further deterioration of this beautiful structure.
A new roof, roof timbers, repair of the foundation stones, and partial replacement of side planks will render this barn usable for 100 more years!
